How We Prepare for an Amazing 2026 at Winchester Lavender Farm

When the fall blooms fade, and winter settles in, many people think lavender farms go quiet. But at Winchester Lavender Farm, the winter months are some of the most important of the year — a time of preparation, planning, and tending to the roots of a successful season ahead. 🌬️❄️

Rest & Protect the Plants

Lavender is a hardy perennial — especially English lavender varieties — but winter still requires thoughtful care. Lavender plants go dormant as temperatures drop, and part of winter prep is to ensure they stay healthy through dormancy so they burst back to life in spring. This often includes:

  • Improving soil drainage so roots don’t sit in moisture over winter, which can lead to rot. Lavender thrives in well‑drained soil and dislikes soggy conditions.

  • Applying mulch or protective ground cover around the base of the plants to insulate roots and regulate soil temperature.

  • Reducing water and letting plants rest as growth slows — roots don’t need much moisture during winter dormancy.

These steps help ensure our fields stay strong through cold spells and are ready for vigorous growth when spring arrives.

Planning Our 2026 Lavender Lineup

Winter is also a time of careful planning at Winchester Lavender Farm. We’re not just resting — we’re strategizing the year ahead:

🌿 Culinary Lavender Cultivation: We grow and plan to highlight culinary lavender — perfect for teas, desserts, herb blends, and even savory dishes. Culinary lavender has become a favorite ingredient for chefs and home cooks alike, thanks to its sweet, floral notes that enhance both sweet and savory recipes.

💙 Super Blue Lavender for Wreaths & Bouquets. One of our exciting focuses for 2026 is incorporating Super Blue lavender into our creative offerings. This variety is known for its vibrant, deep blue‑purple blooms and strong fragrance, making it a standout choice for wreath‑making classes and dried floral bouquets that hold their color beautifully.

Super Blue lavender isn’t just beautiful — its blooms are plentiful and perfect for crafting décor that captures attention and keeps lavender’s calming scent alive long after harvest.

Workshops, Classes, and Community Events

Winter is when we lay the groundwork for the experiential side of our farm life. We’re busy organizing:

  • Wreath‑making workshops featuring deep‑blue Super Blue lavender

  • 🍽️ Culinary lavender tastings and cooking demos

  • 💐 Design sessions for lavender bouquets and gifts

These events are where our community — and visitors — connect with lavender in creative, flavorful, and memorable ways. There’s nothing quite like learning new techniques while surrounded by friends and fragrant blooms!

Why Winter Matters

Even though the fields may look quiet under winter skies, the groundwork happening now determines the strength of our 2026 season. Between protective care of our plants, planning exciting new workshops, and refining our product offerings — like culinary lavender and Super Blue bouquets — winter is anything but idle.

We can’t wait to share another beautiful season with you — packed with lavender blooms, learning, and community connection! 💜
